Here is Michelle Sands’ story about organizing a TASC Force team in San Antonio in tribute to her friend: I first learned of the Race for the Cure several years ago from a very special friend, however this is was my first opportunity to participate and make an impact in the fight against breast cancer. I have a personal connection in this fight- my best friend, Jan, was first diagnosed with breast cancer 6 years ago, I have been honored to be beside her in her fight. She has remained strong throughout her journey and is now in the last stages, as the cancer has spread to her liver and lungs. She has never given up hope and continues to fight against this disease! Jan and her love of butterflies was the inspiration behind the name of our team- BJ’s TASC Force Butterflies! I was thrilled by my fellow BJ’s team members who were so excited to participate and make an impact. We had a total of 16 on our team and 13 of those were BJ’s servers – several team members also have family and friends who have fought against this disease. Our total amount raised was $986 and this was matched by the BJ’s Foundation for a total of just under $2,000.

Being a part of something so much larger than yourself was amazing and this sentiment was repeated over and over by all of our team members. Several commented that it was one of the most incredible things they had ever done; it was definitely an uplifting, yet humbling experience. We are looking forward to next year and hope to have an even larger impact!
