Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How do I “Buy a Hero a Beer”?

There are two ways for you to “buy a hero a beer” through this program.

Option #1: You may make a contribution to one of the funds we are administering from which promo codes redeemable for a free BJ’s craft beer (or BJ’s handcrafted soda) at a BJ’s restaurant can be claimed online by individuals who fall within the current “Hero” designation (such as military personnel, police officers, firefighters, etc.). Any contribution you make online must be in $6 increments (e.g., $6, $12, $18, and so on), but you may make a contribution at a BJ’s restaurant in any amount. For a description of the current “Hero” designation, please either ask your server during your next visit to a BJ’s restaurant, or visitwww.bjsrestaurants.com/hero.

Option #2: To buy a beer for someone you may personally regard as a hero, purchase a BJ’s eGift Card as a gift in any amount between $5 and $500. Unlike the promo codes funded under option #1, your recipient of the eGift Card is not limited to using the card value for a beer—they can use the card to purchase any food, drinks, or other merchandise available at a BJ’s restaurant.

  1. Where do I go to “Buy a Hero a Beer”?

Option #1: To make a contribution to one of the funds we are administering under this program, add your contribution to your check at your next visit to a BJ’s restaurant, select the “Buy a Hero a Beer” option in the BJ’s mobile app, or visit www.bjsrestaurants.com/hero.

If you make a contribution online or through the BJ’s mobile app, you will be prompted to direct it to apply to one of two funds—either: (i) the “Local Fund” supporting the promo codes for qualifying Heroes to request and redeem at a BJ’s restaurant of your choice; or (ii) the “National Fund” supporting the promo codes for any BJ’s restaurant—namely, for qualifying Heroes to request and redeem at a BJ’s restaurant of their choice. If you make a contribution by adding it to your check at your next visit to a BJ’s restaurant, it will automatically go into the National Fund—that is, you will not be able to direct it to the Local Fund (towards a BJ’s restaurant of your choice).

Option #2: To purchase a BJ’s eGift Card for someone you may regard as a hero, visit www.bjsrestaurants.com/hero and click on the “Send an eGift Card” option under the “Thank A Hero In Your Life” section.

  1. Is there a designated contribution amount?

Any contribution you make online must be in $6 increments (e.g., $6, $12, $18, and so on). However, any contribution you make at a BJ’s restaurant may be in any amount.

There is no upper limit for contributions. And you may make multiple contributions on multiple occasions.

Any BJ’s eGift Card purchased for someone you may regard as a hero must be between $5 and $500.

  1. Will my contribution fund promo codes redeemed at my local BJ’s restaurant?

Yes, if you make your contribution online and elect to have it go into the Local Fund for your local BJ’s restaurant.

If instead your contribution is allocated to the National Fund, it will fund a promo code that a qualifying Hero can request and redeem at a BJ’s restaurant of the Hero’s choice, which may not be your local BJ’s restaurant.

  1. Can I designate that my contribution fund a promo code for a particular person who meets the current “Hero” designation?

No. But you can spread the word about this program to any person who you think may qualify for the current “Hero” designation, and they can request a promo code at www.bjsrestaurants.com/hero.

Alternatively, you may simply purchase a BJ’s eGift Card in any amount between $5 and $500 for anyone you may regard as a hero (regardless whether or not he or she would qualify for the current “Hero” designation). To purchase an eGift Card, visit www.bjsrestaurants.com/hero and click on the “Send an eGift Card” option under the “Thank A Hero In Your Life” section.

  1. How old do I need to be to make a contribution through this promotion?

You must be at least 21 years old to make a contribution through this program. If you make a contribution online, you will be required to enter your birthdate. If you make a contribution at a BJ’s restaurant, you will be required to show proof of age.

  1. Instead of a BJ’s craft beer, may a promo code funded by my contribution through this promotion be redeemed for a non-alcohol beverage?

Yes. Each promo code will be redeemable for either a BJ’s craft beer or any BJ’s handcrafted soda of the promo code holder’s choice available at the BJ’s restaurant. Beer may only be served to persons 21 years of age or older. All beer service is subject to applicable laws.

  1. Is my contribution tax deductible?

No. Any contribution or gift that you make through this program will not qualify as a tax-deductible expense. This program is not associated with any charity or other 501(c)(3) organization.

  1. How often will the “Hero” designation change?

In general, the “Hero” designation will change approximately every three to four months.

  1. When the current “Hero” designation changes, what happens to the contributions remaining in the funds at that time?

Any contributions remaining in the funds at that time will support promo codes redeemed by individuals qualifying under the next (or a subsequent) “Hero” designation.

  1. What happens to any remaining funds if this promotion is terminated by BJ’s?

If this program is terminated by BJ’s, any amounts remaining in the funds at that time will fund any outstanding promo codes previously issued to qualifying Heroes, or will be donated to a charity of BJ’s choice. When all promo codes have expired, any remaining amounts in the funds will be provided to a charity of BJ’s choice.

  1. Who do I contact if I have further questions?

If you have further questions, please contact BJ’s at hero@bjsrestaurants.com.

For Qualifying Heroes

  1. How do I find out what the current “Hero” designation is?

Either ask your server or another team member during your next visit to a BJ’s restaurant, or visit www.bjsrestaurants.com/hero.

  1. I meet the current “Hero” designation. How do I request a promo code for a free BJ’s craft beer or BJ’s handcrafted soda of my choice?

Visit www.bjsrestaurants.com/hero and complete your request through the “Reserve a Beer” link. If a BJ’s restaurant near you has available beers under this program and you select that location in your reservation, we will promptly send you a promo code that is redeemable at that BJ’s restaurant—during the next 48 hours—for one (1) 16-ounce BJ’s craft beer or any BJ’s handcrafted soda of your choice (subject to availability). Limit: One (1) promo code request per person per day, and subject to availability.

Please note that promo codes are not available from servers or other team members at BJ’s restaurants. You must visit www.bjsrestaurants.com/hero to reserve a beer (i.e., to request a promo code).

  1. How long will any promo code I receive under this promotion be valid?

The promo code will expire 48 hours after it is issued to you. If you are unable to use it during that period, you can visit www.bjsrestaurants.com/hero to request a new promo code (subject to availability).

  1. Will I be asked to verify that I qualify under the current “Hero” designation when redeeming the promo code?

Yes. When you redeem your promo code at a BJ’s restaurant, you will be asked by your server to show proof that you qualify under the current “Hero” designation.

The proof required for the current “Hero” designation will be specified at www.bjsrestaurants.com/hero – for example: a professional firefighter ID card or badge if the current “Hero” designation is firefighters; a police ID card or badge if the current “Hero” designation is police officers; or a U.S. military ID if the current “Hero” designation is military personnel. If you do not provide adequate proof (in BJ’s sole discretion), the promo code will not be redeemable and the amount that would have been deducted from the fund for your promo code will remain in the fund to support another promo code or promo codes.

  1. How old do I need to be to request or redeem a promo code through this promotion?

You must be at least 21 years old to request or redeem a promo code through this program (even if you intend to use the promo code for a BJ’s handcrafted soda). BJ’s reserves the right to refuse service of beer to anyone in accordance with applicable law.

  1. Where may I redeem my promo code?

At the BJ’s restaurant you specify in your reservation through the “Reserve Your Beer” link at www.bjsrestaurants.com/hero.

  1. I am not able to reserve a beer at my desired BJ’s restaurant at this time – why?

This program provides a platform for BJ’s guests who would like to “buy a beer” for qualifying Heroes. Although we have arrangements with other companies (excluding alcohol beverage suppliers) to contribute to the funds we are administering under this program, if their contributions and the contributions of BJ’s guests are collectively insufficient at any time to fund any further requests for promo codes for the BJ’s restaurant at which you would like to reserve a beer, you will not be able to request a promo code for that location until additional contributions are received. We kindly ask that you check back later or reserve a beer at another BJ’s restaurant.

  1. Will I have to pay any applicable sales taxes on the beverage obtained with my promo code?

No. The amount of any applicable sales taxes will be covered by the promo code.

  1. May I give a beer I reserve under this promotion to someone else?

No. You may not give a beer you reserve under this program to anyone else, even if that person qualifies for the current “Hero” designation. But you can spread the word about this program to any person who you think may qualify for the current “Hero” designation, and they can request a promo code at www.bjsrestaurants.com/hero.

  1. Is there a limit on the number of promo codes I may reserve?

Yes. You may only reserve one (1) promo code per day.

Also, the promo codes under this program are subject to availability. Specifically, if the funds we are administering are collectively insufficient to fund a promo code for you when you submit your reservation request, your request may be denied. Please check back later.

  1. Is there a limit on the number of promo codes I may redeem?

Yes. You may not redeem more than one (1) promo code per visit to a BJ’s restaurant.

  1. Who do I contact if I have further questions?

If you have further questions, please contact BJ’s at hero@bjsrestaurants.com.
